That’s the 2021 Boston Marathon cutoff, the amount of time needed under the respective qualifying times in order to enter into the in-person race this October. This is the biggest cutoff ever, due to the much smaller field size. In prior years, BAA took around 26k qualified runners, but due to COVID concerns this year, they’ve pared the acceptance down to 14k runners.
They’ve also announced the qualifying window for the 2022 race – 9/1/2019 onward. With my NYC time in 11/2019, I’ve qualified for 2022, albeit with a very small cushion of a minute and 15 seconds. Likely not enough to get in to the 2022 race. How much I want to run in 2022 will determine how hard I train for the 2021 race.
