Given Queenstown is the birthplace of bungee jumping, it was only natural that bungee jumping would be on our itinerary. Upon further risk/benefit analysis, I determined that the risk of suffering from a heart attack was greater than the benefit of 2 seconds of adrenaline rush. So I abandoned the activity at the last minute. Instead, we chose to do laundry. A bit of downtime was welcomed given our nonstop schedule for the last 25 days.
For our final day in New Zealand, we went for an easy, but no less awe inspiring, hike. The Hooker Valley Track is located in the Mt Cook National Park, a 3-hour drive from Queenstown. I know it sounds crazy to drive such a distance just for a sub 2-hour 6-mile hike, but I figured it would be a good chance to see parts of the island we haven’t had the chance to see.

What’s interesting is that this set of glaciers is on the flip side of Franz Josef glacier in the Westland Tai Poutini National Park. Makes me wonder if there’s a multi-day trail that connects one side to the other.

Final thoughts on New Zealand. Pristine and spectacular landscape, with nice people who are outnumbered by the sheep population. This is one of the rare countries where Joe and I agreed that we will be coming back to, as we’ve barely scratched the surface. And what a beautiful surface it is.
Yes indeed, well worth another trip based on what you’ve seen. By the way, bungee jumping is one thing we don’t have on our agenda despite enjoying most things…that one scares us too much

I wish I had the chance to bungee jump when I was in my 20s, because that’s the age when I didn’t often consider the consequences. Now I’m too wise for my own good…
