Wahclella Falls Trail

Wahclella Falls Trail

Crossing the US/Canada border at Osoyoos is a much more pleasant experience than crossing the border closest to Vancouver. Instead of a half-hour bumper to bumper traffic, there was only one other car crossing the border with us today. The drive through the interior of Washington State isn’t the most scenic, as it’s mostly through semi-arid agricultural land. A far cry from what you see along coastal WA. The scenery does improve once you reach the Oregon border. Driving on I-84 along the Columbia River is a treat.

Oregon has its own fair share of wildfires.

The section of I-84 between Cascade Locks and Troutdale is dotted with waterfalls. A few you can see from the interstate, while the rest require a bit of hiking to get to. After 6 hours of driving, I thought a short hike would be a good way to stretch out the legs.

The Wahclella Falls Trail is a “baby” lollipop loop. The 2-mile trail takes less than an hour to cover.
A “runoff” at the first bridge.
The path is relatively flat with a gradual slope.
View from the second bridge (if you hike the loop counter clockwise).
The waterfall comes into view at the third bridge.
A popular spot to cool off in the summer.
A short and sweet hike

Before checking into the hotel, we made sure to hit our favorite birrieria in Portland.

PDX Birrieria is even better than Taco Humildes in Delano
